How waste product is turned into useful material for concrete production

In Bataan, coal ash is considered an integral component of progress; it helps propel the infrastructure projects of the province.

Under its Total Ash Management Program, GMCP entered into a contract with cement manufacturer Lafarge in 2012, for the sale of coal ash generated from the former’s power plants. Proceeds from the sale are converted to credits for actual cement products, which are then delivered to locations where the provincial government has ongoing infrastructure projects. As of May 2017, GMCP’s total cement credits has reached ₱ 81,519,857.15.

Coal ash is an alternative ingredient for cement production. The use of this by-product reduces the need for ash disposal sites and also provides recycled ash supply cement companies instead of them mining the raw materials.
