29 September 2026 – At Climate Week NYC, ACEN President and CEO Eric Francia joined a high-level roundtable convened by The Rockefeller Foundation and the Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets to discuss the role of governments in developing the market for transition credits.
The discussion explored how greater policy alignment and sustained demand can help transition credits scale as a credible financing mechanism for the early and just retirement of coal plants and their replacement with clean energy.
Francia highlighted the growing momentum behind transition credits, with multiple pathways emerging across voluntary and compliance carbon markets. Singapore has played an important role in catalyzing market development, while Japan and other markets are also exploring complementary approaches that could broaden participation and demand.
He emphasized that scaling transition credits will take time, requiring alignment across governments, carbon market frameworks, buyers and host countries.
For ACEN, the immediate priority is to keep advancing the first real-world pilot and ensure it is ready as these enabling frameworks and markets develop.
“The important thing is to keep the first project moving. There are still hurdles to overcome, but we need to make sure that when the market is ready, we are ready,” Francia said.
