SanMar Solar is one of the largest operating solar farms in the Philippines. It is built over a vast 500-hectare unutilized, lahar covered land in Zambales, effectively converting the area into a productive source of renewable energy.

  • September 2025 – A vast stretch of land in Zambales, once buried under lahar from Mount Pinatubo’s 1991 eruption, has found new life as the site of the country’s largest solar farm—transforming a disaster-scarred landscape into a hub for clean energy and community development.

    The 585 MW SanMar Solar project in San Marcelino earned the Gold Award for Social Initiatives under the “Relations with Local Communities” category for publicly listed and large companies at the inaugural Inquirer ESG Edge Impact Awards 2025, held at the Inquirer Media Resource Plaza in Makati City.

    ACEN was also named the Grand Prize winner for Most Outstanding ESG Initiative among publicly listed companies.

  • ACEN receives multi-regional recognition from DENR for championing environmental stewardship


    28 July 2025 â€” In Region III (Central Luzon), ACEN received recognition for its region-wide environmental leadership, particularly for having the most DENR-approved renewable energy projects within the region.

    The DENR lauded ACEN for championing environmental governance, sustainable development and ecological protection, adding that the company’s “active participation and unwavering support exemplify the highest standards of environmental responsibility and inspire others to follow their lead.”

  • Thriving together: Reinforcing the bayanihan spirit during calamities

    In 2024, Typhoon Carina devastated several areas in Luzon, including Santa Fe, the host barangay of SanMar Solar in San Marcelino, Zambales. Torrential rains rendered the area nearly impassable, cutting off the community and leaving residents in urgent need of assistance.

    Demonstrating ACEN’s commitment to community resilience, the SanMar Solar team, alongside our external affairs and project development team, swiftly launched a relief operation—braving zero visibility, flood risks and treacherous roads to deliver aid. The team provided 180 liters of fuel, 500 food packs, and essential supplies, embodying the bayanihan spirit and bringing much-needed relief in the face of adversity.

  • Launching the Philippines’ first Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education Digital Education High Touch High Tech project in Zambales.

    Through SanMar Solar’s collaboration with Ayala Foundation and the San Marcelino local government, this groundbreaking initiative brings Starlink internet, tablets for learners and teachers, and books to nine elementary schools in San Marcelino—opening doors to a brighter future through innovative learning tools.

    ACEN vice president for solar and storage, Toby Dove, joined Ayala Foundation president Tony Lambino and San Marcelino mayor Elmer Soria to celebrate this milestone, reinforcing our commitment to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.

  • Aside from developing the 585 MW SanMar Solar, we also built large-scale infrastructure in San Marcelino, Zambales.

    This includes a 14-kilometer power transmission line, almost six kilometers of access road and two concrete bridges, significantly reducing travel time and improving accessibility for the IP communities who used to walk three to five hours by foot or motorcycle when going to the San Marcelino town proper to sell their goods.

  • In San Marcelino, Zambales, home to our 585 MW SanMar Solar project, we heavily invested in community infrastructure amidst barren, lahar-laden lands, including this 330 meter bridge, significantly improving accessibility and reducing travel time for indigenous communities seeking to reach the town proper.
