Thriving together: Brightening futures in La Carlota
For years, Haguimit Elementary School in La Carlota, Negros Occidental, struggled without electricity. Teachers had to commute long distances daily, unable to stay overnight due to the lack of power. Students missed out on opportunities for modern learning, relying solely on traditional methods.
This changed when IslaSol’s Solar Pailaw Program installed solar panels at the school, providing light and electricity for the first time.
Now, teachers can stay on-site, reducing long commutes, and students can experience multi-media learning such as watching educational videos, using audio-visual tools and engaging with lessons in new ways.
Thriving together: Bringing healthcare closer to communities
Through the Health Caravan, a collaboration between ACEN’s Visayas plants and Generika, communities in Negros island and Guimaras gained access to medical check-ups, mobile blood donations and health education sessions.
By offering medical missions, feeding programs and essential health services, the initiative directly improved the lives of residents while strengthening local healthcare infrastructure. Through continuous engagement, resource allocation and collaboration with local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs), the goal is to build a self-sustaining healthcare network that serves generations to come.
Ayala’s energy group recognized for RCOA reportorial compliance
The Department of Energy (DOE) recognized twelve of ACEN’s power plants which include several operating wind and solar farms with an aggregate capacity of ~760 MW, for its continuous support to the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program through its compliance with the reportorial requirements required under DOE Circular No. DC2013-05-0006.
The awarded plants were NorthWind in Ilocos Norte, Guimaras Wind in Visayas, the three solar farms in Negros, SacaSol, MonteSol and IslaSol.
Promoting energy self-reliance
IslaSol is helping the province of Negros Occidental transition to renewable energy through the installation of around 50 solar rooftop panels in the Annex Building of La Carlota City Public Market, which houses several key local government offices.
The installed 25 kW solar energy generation requires no battery and connects directly to the power grid, allowing La Carlota City to save on energy costs of approximately ₱200,000 per year.
ACEN power plants awarded IMS certification
ACEN’s operating power plants in the Philippines were recently awarded the prestigious Integrated Management System (IMS) certification as verified by DQS Certification Philippines, Inc., one of the leading certification bodies for management systems worldwide.
Nine of ACEN’s operating plants have passed the IMS certification for:
• ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System)
• ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System)
• ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System)
Information drive on renewable energy
Promoting renewable energy among students in its host community remains part of IslaSol’s advocacy.
IslaSol’s pioneer Renewable Energy Advocacy Drive (READ) at La Carlota City aims to teach pupils the importance of clean energy in the environment and encourage them to practice sustainability at a young age.
Community impact through environmental initiatives
IslaSol’s environmental and social initiatives are geared towards improving the lives of the communities it serves in Negros Occidental. Its green activities such as River Clean Up and tree planting are much valued by the local government because of their good impact in the surrounding communities.
IslaSol also strengthens stakeholder ties through education and COVID-19 initiatives.
