The NorthWind wind farm along the shores of Bangui Bay is one of the most iconic scenes in the Ilocos Norte province. It is ACEN’s first venture into renewable energy and the first wind farm in Southeast Asia.

From Awareness to Action Ongoing awareness and training programs for environmental preservation and biodiversity being conducted by ACEN’s wind farms, North Luzon Renewables and North Wind, empower the locals to become stewards of the Conservation Estate in Ilocos Norte. In 2020, over 13 turtles were rescued and released into the sea, 18 turtle nests have been recorded and monitored, 240 eggs were managed with a hatching rate of 74% , with over 398 eggs being monitored. Since 2020, 39 sea turtles were rescued and released into the sea, while 32 nests have been recorded and monitored. Out of the 2539 eggs managed, 1715 hatchings were produced with a hatching rate of 68%.
Integrated Approach to Turtle Conservation
NorthWind and North Luzon Renewables has partnered with the Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines (MWWP), an organization advocating for the conservation and protection of marine-wildlife and their habitats, to create a Pawikan Conservation Action Plan that will now serve as a framework for the company, its partners and stakeholders in the roll out of an enhanced turtle conservation program. Guidelines on threat management and resource protection, and an assessment on current capacities of the local communities will be formulated for MWWP to able to design appropriate training programs and workshops for a fortified program.
US Ambassador to the Philippines visits NorthWind, NLR Recently, US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson dropped by our operating wind farms to learn how wind power is energizing the Philippines for a sustainable future. She emphasized the US government’s continued interest in working with the Philippine government and private sectors in ensuring a rich supply of clean and affordable energy.
NorthWind surprises host community with gifts
Team NorthWind recently conducted a gift-giving activity in Sitio Suyo, Baruyen, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, a gesture of thanksgiving for its stakeholders and host community.
A total of 62 households received Noche Buena packages before Christmas, bringing smiles to the residents, especially the children, elderlies, and family heads.
In partnership with the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO), NorthWind recently conducted a Tree Growing activity at the Bangui Windfarm Phase 3 at Brgy. Baruyen, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, in celebration of the International Mountain Day last December 11.
Bangui mayor Fidel Cimatu, Ilocos Norte Board Member Saul Lazo, Ilocos Norte police officials, barangay officials, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), NorthWind's Forestry team and different rider groups participated in the activity.
Helping Ilocos Norte schools through Brigada Eskwela More than 40 schools from the towns of Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte have benefitted from NorthWind's Brigada Eskwela, where employees and volunteers conducted minor and major repairs in schools such as fixing of damage furniture, fixtures, electrical system, cleaning of surroundings, repainting, masonry and carpentry works and others.
